FAQ
What are the base
frames of the marine upholstery manufactured by American Soft Trim
constructed of?
The standard is .40 CCA pressure treated 7 ply Ύ and 5 ply ½ Douglas fir
plywood with a lifetime warranty against damage as the result of fungal
decay/rot, termite or other wood eating insect infestation, and structural
defects such as delamination. Composite
(polyethylene) base frames with a lifetime warranty are available as an
option.
What type of fasteners are
utilized to construct the marine upholstery manufactured by American Soft
Trim?
We utilize all stainless steel fasteners in the construction of our marine
upholstery including heavy gauge stainless steel staples, stainless steel
bolts and screws, and aluminum hinges with stainless steel pins. By utilizing
stainless steel fasteners, corrosion and unsightly rust stains are
eliminated.
What type and weight of vinyl is used for the
marine upholstery manufactured by American Soft Trim?
We use vinyl manufactured specifically for marine applications. The vinyl is
heavy weight to resist scuffing, treated to resist stain, mildew resistant,
and UV inhibitors are added to resist the damaging effects of the sun. In
fact, our vinyl has a 3-year warranty against UV degradation.
What should be used to clean and protect the
vinyl?
To clean vinyl:
1. Rinse with cool water.
2. Wash with soap (Ivory) and water using a soft cloth or sponge. For
stubborn dirt, a soft bristle brush may be used.
3. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry.
4. For stubborn stains and general cleaning, we recommend a product available
for purchase from American Soft Trim that is extremely effective called
303 Vinyl/Fabric Cleaner. The 303 Vinyl Cleaner is available in a 32 oz spray bottle for $19.00.
5. Avoid harsh cleaners, abrasives, petroleum distillates, bleach, 409
cleaner, or any silicone based products.
To protect vinyl:
The only protectant we recommend is a product
called 303 Aerospace Protectant. 303 Aerospace Protectant was specifically developed as a UV screening
protective treatment for aerospace and aviation applications, and provides
all the protective features necessary for maintaining vinyl. Regular use of
303 Aerospace Protectant will:
1. Prevent UV fading and degradation.
2. Repel dust, dirt, oils, tree sap, mildew, and stains to maintain surface
integrity.
3. Restore lost color and luster.
4. Keep vinyl cleaner longer and make vinyl easier to clean.
Using the wrong vinyl protectant product is worse
than using no vinyl treatment product at all! Avoid vinyl treatment products
than contain any type of oil, have an oily or greasy feeling, contain
petroleum distillates, or silicone based products.
303 Aerospace Protectant is available for
purchase from American Soft Trim in a 16 oz spray bottle for $19.00. This
stuff really works and can double the life of the vinyl if used regularly.
